Earth Data Gives: Global Vision 2020

Earth Data gives. It is a foundational principle in what we do and who we are as a company. On Friday, January 18, more than a dozen of our employees volunteered to help a local organization that wants to end the global vision epidemic—Global Vision 2020.

Former Earth Data employee Kevin White is also founder and executive director of Global Vision 2020. Kevin invented an eye-screening tool called the USee. This simple device and lens kit allows for the delivery of corrective eyeglasses in only a few minutes. Kevin’s device is the gateway to safety, education, and prosperity for people living in the world’s most hard to reach places. Earth Data continues to support Kevin’s mission and the great work of Global Vision 2020.

How did we help? We spent most of the day sorting and labeling lenses and building the final kits. It wasn’t difficult work, but it was meaningful work, knowing the kits we were building would end up in places like Malawi, Namibia, and Togo. Those kits will provide corrective eyeglasses to children who are being left behind in school because they can’t see, and adults who are struggling to provide for themselves and their families because of poor vision.

Earth Data employees may not have traveled around the world to lay a pair of corrective eyeglasses into the hands of someone who needs them, but the small step we took last week will give someone an opportunity for a better life far into the future. Sometimes the smallest steps are the biggest.
