Packing Hope

Though times may be difficult, there are still opportunities to give. Recently, Earth Data Senior Geologist JP Stokes and his son Colin spent time assisting the West Anne Arundel County Christian Assistance Program (CAP) pantry assembling weekly grocery bags. The food pantry has operated for many years but recently was listed as one of Anne Arundel County’s COVID-19 Food Pantries.

The CAP pantry serves around 200 families in the Odenton, Severn, and Gambrills communities. Donations are provided by the county food bank, local churches, and local grocery stores. The food pantry then handles the distribution of the food to those in need.

The Severn Methodist Church houses the supplies, but with recent social distancing measures in place, the food pantry may only have two or three volunteers in the building to assemble the bags. Undaunted, a small team including JP and his son assembled grocery bags with a supply of meats, fruits, vegetables, cereals, and snacks.

Giving back not only makes an impact on those who are receiving help, but on the ones offering help. Colin said it best, “This feels good, helping other people!”
